Hi, my name is Luca DeMontis and I love Blind Hockey!  I am the Program Manager of Canadian Blind Hockey and the General Manager of the Canadian National Blind Hockey Team.  These roles have allowed me to meet so many amazing individuals from across this country, and it is something I am truly grateful for.

In this sport, I have made so many friendships that will last a lifetime. To some this is just a sport, to others, it is a community that I truly feel honoured to be part of! The sport of Blind Hockey has done a lot for my family.

In 2009, I witnessed my brother Mark DeMontis inline skate 5,000 kms from our hometown of Weston, Ontario, to Vancouver, BC.  This was the first step in his dream of creating an organization that would bring children and youth who are blind or partially sighted onto the ice to learn to play the game of Blind Hockey.

In 2011, Mark inline skated from Pier 21 Halifax, Nova Scotia – the place my father immigrated to from Italy – 2,000 kms home to Toronto. I saw the community grow from coast-to-coast.  2021 marks the 10-year anniversary of my brother Mark DeMontis completing his inline skate across Canada!

Over the last 10 years, we have introduced over 1,000 children and youth who are blind and or partially sighted from across Canada to the fast-growing parasport of Blind Hockey.  The sport has grown from 4 teams in 2009 to 14 different programs across this country in 2021.

Sport provides children and youth with the power to feel included and part of a team. With Canadian Blind Hockey I have had the opportunity to travel abroad to Russia and Finland to share the amazing sport of Blind Hockey. To see the smile on these children’s faces after stepping onto the ice for the first time or scoring their very first goal is something I will never be able to explain.  Our goal is to have Blind Hockey included in the Paralympics one day.

We now need your help to achieve our goal!  Every dollar goes into helping Canadian Blind Hockey create programs for children and youth who are blind or partially sighted to achieve their dream.

Thank you!

Merci!

Luca DeMontis
