The 2025 Canadian National Blind Hockey Tournament will be the largest Blind Hockey event of all time with 190 players registered! There will be 24 games across 7 divisions including: Children, Youth, Girls and Women, Low Vision & Development, Open, the NEW Masters division and the Select Series! Players have registered from across Canada, the United States, Finland and Oxford, UK.
The ceremonial puck drop will happen on Friday March 21 ahead of game 1 of a best-of-three National Team Select Series where the best Blind Hockey players in the country will be competing to earn on a spot on the 2025 Canadian National Blind Hockey ahead of the International Ice Hockey series in Montreal April 25 – 27.
The Opening Ceremonies Friday March 21 will have a special guest on hand in trophy form, as the Hockey Hall of Fame will be bringing the prestigious NHL Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award to celebrate the reigning winner – Toronto native and Canadian Blind Hockey founder Mark DeMontis. This will be the first time Mark has had the opportunity to celebrate winning an NHL Award with the entire Blind Hockey community, as well as 2000 elementary students from across the TDSB and the TCDSB who will be on hand to witness the best Blind Hockey players on the planet go head-to-head during this special schools-only invitational game.
Other marquee events leading up to this National Tournament include the 4th annual Girls and Women’s Blind Hockey Summit and the Children & Youth Multi-Sport camp which are both happening on Thursday, March 21. These additional events help shape the Blind Hockey Tournament to not only offer the chance to play on the ice all weekend, but to explore and discover new skills with other players who are blind or partially sighted off the ice as well.
The tournament will be held at the Mattamy Athletic Centre – formerly Maple Leaf Gardens – and is free and open to the public. All games will be streamed live on the Canadian Blind Hockey YouTube channel. The full tournament schedule is available at canadianblindhockey.com.
This event is made possible by Canadian Blind Hockey’s national program partner the CNIB Foundation and national partners the Lawson Family Foundation, the Daniel Family Foundation, Electra Health, and Manion, as well as support from many tournament partners including grants from the Daryl K Seaman Canadian Hockey Fund at the Calgary Foundation and Jumpstart in support of the Children and Youth Divisions.
