Canadian Blind Hockey is Exhibiting at NHL All-Star Fan Fair in Toronto!

Canadian Blind Hockey is thrilled to share we have been invited by the NHL to take part in this year’s 2024 Hyundai NHL All-Star Fan Fair festivities being held at the Metro Convention Centre!

Fans can visit our booth to learn about the adapted rules and equipment, witness some incredible highlight videos, meet members of the undefeated Canadian National Blind Hockey Team, and attempt to shoot at targets while wearing glasses that simulate a wide variety of visual impairments.

We’re thrilled to share that Blind Hockey will be featured as part of the new 12-part series Breaking Down Barriers on TSN! Each episode focuses on individuals and organizations dedicated to reshaping the culture of hockey.

The story of Mark DeMontis will premiere on TSN 2 at 10:30pm EST next Monday Oct 23 and air throughout the week. Mark has inspired many players to try Blind Hockey when facing their own challenges and we’re proud his journey will be shared across Canada. Special thanks to Toronto Six ice hockey player and host Saroya Tinker for joining us throughout the year at various Blind Hockey events & practices!

We were honoured to showcase Blind Hockey at the Marner Assist Foundation All-Star Invitational this summer where NHL players including a trio of Toronto Maple Leafs players Mitch Marner, Morgan Rielly and team captain John Tavares scrimmaged with our Jr Ice Owls and the adapted hockey puck.

Thanks to Mitch and your team for creating awareness of the Para sport of Blind Hockey! Best of luck this season!

Celebrating National Coaches Week 2023

It’s National Coaches Week and Canadian Blind Hockey is saying #ThanksCoach to all of our amazing on-ice coaches and incredible off-ice volunteers that make Blind Hockey possible coast-to-coast!

To celebrate coaches week, we’ve released a series of videos that we invite you to enjoy on our YouTube channel.

The first video thanks all of our coaches at every level across the country on behalf of the board and staff of Canadian Blind Hockey:

The second video features National Team Head Coach Paul Kerins sharing which coaches have inspired him on his coaching journey (Including 2023 NHL Jack Adams winner Jim Montgomery).

To those of you who have helped new participants lace up for the very first time, to those who teach the fundamentals of skating and Blind Hockey, and those of you who stand behind the benches inspiring confidence and personal best performances at Blind Hockey tournaments: Thanks Coach!

A special thank you to all of our coaches and volunteers from the Jr. Ice Owls, Ottawa 67’s, Windsor Blind Hockey, and W Ross MacDonald Otters programs who come to our programs each and every week all season to make Blind Hockey possible, as well as those who help with weekly programs across Canada.

2024 National Blind Hockey Tournament – Expression of Interest for Coaches

The 2024 Canadian National Blind Hockey Tournament takes place between March 22 and 24 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto. This is the 10th anniversary of the tournament, and we are expecting the largest event in Blind Hockey history with up to 200 players and six divisions.

In order to offer our community a quality sporting experience we need to recruit the best possible Blind Hockey coaches for the event. Whether you have coached at the tournament before, are a new Blind Hockey coach, or someone with a hockey background looking to get into coaching we ask you please complete this expression of interest if you would like to coach at the 2024 Canadian National Blind Hockey Tournament.

New dates for Children & Youth Summer Development Camp

Our 2023 Children and Youth Multi-Sport Camp has been moved to Mississauga, ON and now takes place from August 16 – 20 as part of the larger Summer Development Camp. We expect to have 15 – 20 participants aged 6 – 17 come together from across Canada to participate in Blind Hockey and a variety of Para sport activities such as Goalball, Five-a-Side Soccer, Beep Baseball / Beep Kickball, Tandem Cycling, Rowing, Athletics, Swimming, Judo, Golf, Equestrian etc.

Thanks to a grant from the Government of Canada – Sport Canada, we are pleased to be able to offer the Children and Youth Multi-Sport Camp at no registration cost to the participants – this year’s camp is 100% free to attend! Attached please find the information package, to register simply fill out this google form.

This camp is designed as an introduction to Blind Hockey and Blind Sports, and no previous hockey experience is required. Participants will have more fun during the on-ice portion if they possess basic skating ability, but it is not mandatory. For any participants who do not have their own hockey equipment, gear will be provided.
