Canadian Blind Hockey is thrilled to announce that the 2023 Canadian Blind Hockey Summer Development Camp is happening August 16 -20 in Mississauga, Ontario, presented by AMI and brought to you by CNIB Foundation.

This year’s camp is expected to include more than 50 Blind Hockey players from across Canada and around the world including the UK and Finland participating in the Children and Youth Multi-Sport Camp, Development, and High-Performance Divisions.

NEW THIS YEAR:

The 2023 Canadian Blind Hockey Summer Development camp will feature two Blind Hockey Showcase games that are FREE and open to the public held at the Iceland Arena, 705 Matheson Blvd E, Mississauga, ON L4Z 4A6.

Come out and support Blind Hockey!

Thanks to a grant from the Government of Canada – Sport Canada, we are pleased to be able to offer the Children and Youth Multi-Sport Camp at no registration cost to the participants – this year’s camp is 100% free to attend! Attached please find the information package, to register simply fill out this google form. 

This camp is designed as an introduction to Blind Hockey and Blind Sports, and no previous hockey experience is required. Participants will have more fun during the on-ice portion if they possess basic skating ability, but it is not mandatory. For any participants who do not have their own hockey equipment, gear will be provided.

June is #Deafblind Awareness Month and Canadian Blind Hockey is celebrating the achievements of our Deafblind players & community along with their amazing intervenors who play an important role in their lives both on and off the ice.  This photo is a perfect example as Deafblind defenceman Shannon murphy gets the game coaches instructions from his interpreter Gordon.

“Having a deafblind condition is like having the world’s least attractive internet & cable package force you into a disability bundle with a lifetime contract. Along with that feeling, it also brought on some unexpected positive experiences. For one, it got me back on the ice and introduced me to the world of Canadian Blind Hockey, a journey that’s taken me from being a player to a board member. And it taught me to look at my limitations head on, and even how to trust the sense ability I did have – when to watch, and when to listen, in as much as I can. It makes everyday an adventure. I’m so proud of our entire blind hockey community. When I see a kid who is blind or partially sighted score their first goal on the ice, I get so pumped up. It takes guts to play the world’s fastest game with a disability. No matter how much you can or can’t see, you still have to go into the corners as hard as you can. It’s the only way to get the puck back. In the game, and in life.”

Canadian Blind Hockey is a charity that remains committed to removing barriers for Canadians who are blind or partially sighted to participate in Canada’s national winter sport. 2023 Canadian Blind Hockey Children and Youth Multi-Sport Camp

Brantford, ON. August 9 – 13.

The third Children and Youth Multi-Sport Camp will include one hour and a half of skating and hockey each morning, followed by one or two additional sport opportunities each afternoon such as: Goalball, Five-a-Side Soccer, Beep Baseball / Beep Kickball, Tandem Cycling, Rowing, Athletics, Swimming, Judo, Golf, etc. The camp is open to children and youth from ages 6 – 17, and no prior skating or hockey experience is required. We expect between 25 – 30 participants from across Canada, please complete the pre-registration form here to secure your spot today.

2023 Canadian Blind Hockey Summer Development Camp
Mississauga, ON. August 16 – 20.

The eighth annual Summer Development Camp is open to Blind Hockey players who are old enough to participate in adult programming and possess enough skating and hockey skills to participate in practices and games. Players who have previously participated in the Low Vision & Development, Open or Select Divisions of the Canadian Blind Hockey Tournaments are eligible. For youth players 14+ who are interested in attending camp please contact Program Director Luca DeMontis to discuss eligibility. The Development Camp will have up to 68 players in two divisions, and players will participate in seven ice times over four days including both practices and games.
