Canadian Blind Hockey is thrilled to announce that the 2022 Canadian National Blind Hockey Tournament is returning to the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto, Ontario. The event takes place from March 24 to 27 and will include the first-ever Girls & Women’s Blind Hockey Summit, as well as a Children & Youth Multi-Sport Camp. The tournament includes Children & Youth, Low Vision & Development, and Open Division competitions, with well over 100 players registered from across Canada as well as the USA, England, and Finland.

The tournament begins with a historic moment for the Para sport of Blind Hockey, with the first-ever Women’s Blind Hockey Game. This event is a major milestone in the growth of the co-ed Para sport of Blind Hockey, which had only two female players at the inaugural tournament in 2013.

The National Team Celebrity Showcase Game will feature some of the best Blind Hockey players on the planet competing with some celebrity All-Stars. Members of the Canadian National Blind Hockey Team Program will be divided into two teams to compete with sighted players including NHL Alumni, which should produce one of the fastest and most exciting Blind Hockey Games of all time.

The tournament is also a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Toronto Ice Owls Blind Hockey who were founded in 1972 and are the world’s first Blind Hockey Team. In recognition of this milestone the tournament teams will be named in honour of various Blind Hockey clubs across Canada. The four-team Open Division will have players drafted onto teams named after Canadian Blind Hockey’s original four members – the Ice Owls, Eclipse, Hiboux, and Seeing Ice Dogs; the Low Vision & Development Division will have players drafted onto teams named after Canada’s newest programs the Bullseye and SeeCats; and the Children and Youth Division will be a competition between teams named after two of our programs the 67’s and Otters.
